The Different Kinds of Bets in Roulette

In roulette, there are a lot of different ways to bet. The two main types of bets that a person can make when playing roulette are inside bets, and outside bets. With inside bets, a person chooses a range of pockets that the ball will land in, based on position; or they can choose the particular number of the pocket that the ball will land in. On the other hand, with outside bets, a person chooses groups of pockets, such as whether or not the ball will land in an odd or even pocket, the color of the pocket, or a set of pockets grouped together according to position.

Most casinos impose a minimum and maximum betting range, especially for roulette. The rules governing this apply separately for the outside bets and inside bets, as well as for each spin. In order to keep bets organized, there is a roulette table, where the numbers on the wheel are arranged in a particular order, and where the croupier -or casino employee- can arrange gamblers' chips so that they do not lose track of them, and payouts can be properly distributed if and when the time comes.

There are different types of bets, for both inside and outside roulette bets. These kinds of bets are often based more on how the numbers have been positioned on the roulette table, rather than how they had been arranged on the roulette wheel.

For inside bets, one of the simplest kinds of bets that a person can make is the "Straight Up" bet. When betting straight up, a person chooses a specific number, and a chip is placed in the middle of the corresponding square. The odds of this bet are thirty-seven to one, and the payout is thirty-five dollars to every one dollar wagered. Another kind of bet is the "Split" bet, where a person bets on two numbers that are next to each other on the roulette table. Many sorts of inside bets have higher payouts, because the odds of winning are generally smaller.

Outside bets, on the other hand, usually have smaller payouts, because a person stands a better chance of winning with an outside bet. For example, a "Red or Black" bet is when a person bets that the ball falls into either a red pocket, or a black one. The chances of winning are about fifty-fifty. This means that for every dollar that a person bets; they get a dollar back.
